Change of Status for Partner

University of Münster, Germany
The long standing exchange agreement between the Universiyt of Münster and the University of Melbourne in Information Systems at undergraduate level has been adjusted to allow postgraduate level students to participate in the exchange. It has also been expanded to include students studying Geomatics at the University of Melbourne. Change of Status for Partner

King's College, University of London, UK
King's College is one of the constituent members of the University of London in the United Kingdom. This month the long standing exchange agreement between King's College and the University of Melbourne in the Sciences has been expanded to 'General'. This means that students from all faculties are now able to consider King's College as an exchange destination, except Law which was excluded from the agreement. University of Geneva, Switzerland

Study Abroad Opportunity - International Summer and Winter University (FUBiS) in Berlin

FUBiS is an intensive academic program through which students can earn credits that may be counted toward their degrees at their home institutions. FUBiS sessions run for 4 to 6 weeks and take place both in summer and winter:

Term I: 16 January – 13 February 2010

Term II: 29 May – 10 July 2010

Term III: 17 July – 14 August 2010

The courses aim at students interested in German and European culture, politics, film, literature, and/or German language.

The courses

The FUBiS winter program offers semi-intensive German language classes as well as subject classes on various topics:

A combination of language and subject classes is possible. This allows students to improve their language skills as well as further their knowledge of a subject matter.

Fees & Tuition
The program fee is 150 Euro and includes various excursions and activities. The course tuition is 800 Euro and includes the course material.

DAAD stands for the German Academic Exchange Service which is a joint organisation of the German institutions of higher education. The purpose of the DAAD is to promote relations between these German institutions and higher education institutions abroad, primarily through the exchange of students, academics and scientists, for mutual benefit.

For Master of Architecture Students

University of Stuttgart - Architecture Design Studio program from 11 January - 19 February 2010:

The University of Stuttgart in Germany is offering an Architecture Design Studio program from 11 January to 19 February 2010 which has been approved by the Melbourne School of Design as being able to count for one of your 25 point design studios.

Cost?

You pay your normal fees to the University of Melbourne and pay no tuition costs at Stuttgart. You will be liable for the costs of your airfare, and a fee for accommodation in student housing, a German language course, transportation and excursions which is €850 (approx. A$1,500).

If your application is approved you will be considered automatically for a Melbourne Global scholarship of $1,000.

Who can apply?

You must have successfully completed at least 37.5 points within the Master of Architecture program, and have a minimum 70% academic average. Students who commenced the Master of Architecture in semester 2, 2009 and who completed their undergraduate Architecture degree at the University of Melbourne may be considered for the program based on their undergraduate results.

How to apply?

Download the Melbourne Global Mobility application form.

You will need to provide the completed application form (pages A, B and G), a certified copy of your passport details page, and a passport-sized photo.

Lodge your completed application at the Environments and Design Student Centre – ground floor Old Commerce – by no later than 5pm Monday, 14 September 2009. You will be notified of approval from the Faculty by 30 September.

If approved by the Faculty, Melbourne Global Mobility will contact you to complete a Stuttgart application. As the Studio involves a number of Australian universities and places are limited, should there be more applications received than places available then participants will be chosen by the University of Stuttgart. Confirmation of a place from Stuttgart will not be received until early November.

Winter School for Bachelor of Environments Students

The University of Stuttgart in Germany is offering an intensive Winter University period of study from 4 January to 11 February 2010 which may be undertaken for credit towards your degree at the University of Melbourne.

Program of Study

You will undertake 20 hours per week of German Language and Culture (no previous knowledge required) PLUS 8 hours a week from one of the subjects listed below (all but the last one are taught in English):

European Art and Architecture from the Middle Ages to the Present

Cross Cultural Communication

Deutschland heute (German proficiency required)

Whether credit will count towards breadth and/or elective will depend on factors such as the major you are undertaking, and which of the non-language subjects you choose. None of the subjects may be undertaken for credit towards your major component.

Cost?

You pay your normal fees to the University of Melbourne and pay no tuition costs at Stuttgart. You will be liable for the costs of your airfare, and an €850 (approx. A$1,500) fee for accommodation with a host family, transportation and compulsory excursions.

If your application is approved you will be automatically considered for a Melbourne Global scholarship of $1,000.

Who can apply?

You must have successfully completed at least one year and 75 points in the Bachelor of Environments and have a minimum 70% academic average.

How to apply?

Download the Melbourne Global Mobility application form.

You will need to provide the completed application form (pages A, B and G), a certified copy of your passport details page, and a passport-sized photo. You do not need to provide an academic reference, CV or essay.

Lodge your completed application at the Environments and Design Student Centre – ground floor Old Commerce – by no later than 5pm Tuesday 15 September 2009. You will be notified of approval from the Faculty by 30 September.

If approved by the Faculty, Melbourne Global Mobility will contact you to complete a Stuttgart application. Confirmation of a place from Stuttgart will not be received until early November.

Australia Indonesia Governance Research Partnership (AIGRP) Young Scholars Workshop, 1-8 December, 2009, Jakarta:

Australian and Indonesian post-grads with research interests in Indonesia can still apply for a place in this year’s Australia—Indonesia Young Scholars Workshop to be held in Jakarta from December 1-8, 2009.

Honours and Masters students are particularly encouraged to apply!

As a participant you will:

Encounter Europe - Visit Germany:

A DAAD European-Studies Seminar for Students from Australia and New Zealand from 6th - 19th December 2009 at the European Academy Otzenhausen. An Introduction to the politcal, economic and environmental issues of European integration.

In co-operation with the ASKO EUROPA-STIFTUNG (AES) and other renowned partners in Germany, France and Australia, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) offers scholarships for a two-week course dealing with the issue of the European Union in a broader sense. Two weeks full of exciting opportunities for students - in the fields of law, politics, international relations, European studies or similar subjects - wanting to improve their understanding of contemporary European affairs and legislative regulations, organised by the AES, the European Academy Otzenhausen, the University of New England and the DAAD.

The course is open to all Australian and New Zealand undergraduates and graduates who have completed at least two years of university education by the beginning of the course and have interest in German and European Affairs. The seminar will be held in English.

The program is comprised of a course on European affairs and study trips to Saarbrücken, Trier, Luxembourg, Strasbourg and to Germany's former capital Bonn.

The Scholarships include:

Participants must organize and pay for their own transport to Germany and back and whatever pocket money.

DAAD Scholarships available for a Deutschlandkundlicher Winterkurs in Germany

In co-operation with the Universities of Duisburg-Essen, Freiburg, Leipzig, the IIK Düsseldorf and the institute Fubis in Berlin, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) once again intends to offer scholarships for a six (four)-week Deutschlandkundlicher Winterkurs from January to February 2010. This is an exciting opportunity for students and junior faculty members with a sound knowledge (minimum B1, preferably B2) of German wanting to improve their language skills and understanding of contemporary affairs.
The course is open to all Australian and New Zealand undergraduates, graduates and junior faculty members, except graduates involved in German and German faculty courses. All lectures of the Deutschlandkundlicher Winterkurs will be held in German.

The Scholarships include:

Participants should allow EUR 250 to EUr 300 of their own funds for additional expenses.

"Rising to the Challenge – Global Student Leadership in the 21st Century"
National University of Singapore

13 – 24 July 2009

The program targets undergraduate students who hold leadership positions at their home university and would like to engage other student leaders from the Pacific Rim; students who are interested to see how student leadership can impact global issues and global change; and students who want to be change agents to pressing global issues.

This program will also feature a variety of activities conducted outside the classroom to engage student leaders in student leadership service projects and provide the opportunity to explore Singapore’s unique history as an Asian city-state.

ESADE Business School, Ramon Llull University, Barcelona, Spain
ESADE, Escuela Superior de Administración y Dirección de Empresas, in Barcelona in Catalunya in Spain and the Faculty of Economics and Commerce have agreed to begin exchanging students at undergraduate level. The formal exchange begins in semester 1, 2010. See the entry under Spain in the partner list for the relevant link to the ESADE website.

University of Tokyo, Japan
The University of Tokyo and the Faculty of Arts at the University of Melbourne have agreed to begin exchanging students. The exchange will be mainly through the English language program known as “AIKOM”, which is short for “Abroad in Komaba”, the campus in Tokyo where the College of Arts and Sciences is located.  Although taught mainly in English there is a Japanese language program available and students can also study in Japanese in normal classes if they have sufficient knowledge of the language.  The AIKOM program is not large, with only about 25 students accepted per year beginning in October. National College of Agronomy, Toulouse (ENSAT), France
The National College of Agronomy, Toulouse in France, known by its French acronym as ENSAT, and the Melbourne School of Land and Environment have agreed to begin exchanging graduate students studying Food Science.
