Re-enrolment for 2009
This page is designed for students who are about to go on exchange. If you are currently on exchange, click here.
Re-enrolment runs from Monday, 20 October to Friday, 21 November in 2008. If you do not re-enrol during this period you will receive a $250 Late Re-enrolment fee. If you have not re-enrolled for 2009 by Friday 5 December 2008 your enrolment will be cancelled.
Note that cancellation will mean that you will need to apply for re-admission into your course as a new student, but will be considered on the basis of academic merit and the availability of places. If you are re-accepted into the course you will be charged fees and/or student contributions at the 2009 rate. You will also be charged the $250 Late Re-enrolment Fee. If you are an international student whose enrolment is cancelled, your Australian visa will also be cancelled.
There are three (3) steps to re-enrolment:
- indicating your interest in student organisations;
- accepting the terms and conditions of re-enrolment; and
- selecting your subjects (this requirement does not apply to all courses).
When re-enrolling, make sure you keep the receipt number that is issued when you complete each step. If you don't have a receipt number then you HAVE NOT completed the step. Please try again. If you are having difficulties, email your Faculty Exchange Adviser.
You re-enrol via the Home tab in the Student Portal (http://portal.unimelb.edu.au).
Who Should Re-Enrol?
You must re-enrol if you are planning to go away on Exchange in 2009.
If you have received confirmation of your acceptance from your host institution, take your acceptance document to your Faculty Exchange Adviser and ask her/him to enrol you as an exchange student for the period for which you have been approved to go on exchange. If you are only going for semester 1 and still have subjects to complete in semester 2 when you return, you must re-enrol for that semester also and can do that by following the instructions below. If you complete your exchange and are not planning to return to study in the next semester, but still have subjects left to complete your degree, you should request leave of absence by Friday 21 November, 2008.
If you have NOT received confirmation of your acceptance in writing from your host insitution, enrol in subjects that you would otherwise do if you were not on exchange. Once you receive your confirmation in writing take it to your Faculty Exchange Adviser and have your enrolment changed for 2009 to reflect your exchange.
Re-enrolment Procedure for 2009
This revised process is designed to facilitate your re-enrolment and to give you extra time to pay your fees.
After completing the enrolment steps, you will be confirmed if you:
- have a valid course plan (that is, have subjects selected); and
- have no debts (such as library fines).
Following confirmation, a fee invoice will be sent to you in January, 2009. If you have not received one by the 31 January, you can download one from the Fees Section of the Admin tab on the Student Portal (http://portal.unimelb.edu.au).
Follow these easy steps to re-enrol:
- go to the Home tab in the Student Portal (http://portal.unimelb.edu.au);
- click on the Re-enrolment button on the right hand side of the screen;
- the first screen will ask you to indicate your interest in a Student Organisation, you must submit this to receive a receipt number even if you don’t wish to be apart of any organisation;
- the next screen will list the terms and conditions of re-enrolment and you will be asked to accept those by pressing the submit button;
- you will then be asked to select your subjects but this does not apply to all courses, if you have a choice in what subjects you want to do, complete subject selection according to the instructions received from your faculty;
- if you have no choice in what subjects you do, your faculty may enter the correct subjects for your re-enrolment in 2009, otherwise they will advise you as to which subjects to select;
- if you are doing subjects on exchange that are pre-requisites for subjects you want to do when you get back, it will be assumed that you have passed them until your results have been received from the partner institution;
- you must view your subject selection before you can submit, you will receive a receipt number if this is done correctly (note that you cannot enrol in exchange subjects yourself, your Faculty Exchange Adviser must enrol you in those subjects, you should choose subjects you would do were you not going on exchange in semester 1 and 2);
- close the screen and go back to the Re-enrolment link on the Student Portal;
- you should receive a receipt number when you complete each step, if you don't have a receipt number then you HAVE NOT completed the step and you should try again. If you are having difficulties, email your Faculty Exchange Adviser;
- once your acceptance letter has been received from the partner institution, you should contact your Faculty Exchange Adviser(s) and ask them to change your enrolment to reflect that you will be on exchange in semester 1 (and 2?), 2009;
- if you are going on exchange to receive credit in more than one faculty, you must tell the Faculty Exchange Advisers what proportion of your load will be in which faculty, eg faculty 1, 12.5 points and faculty 2, 37.5 points; and
- obtain your results from the Student Portal and if you have a supplementary examination or there are concerns about your academic progress, follow your faculty's instructions, and contact Melbourne Global as soon as possible, your 2009 enrolment will be confirmed but conditional upon the results of any special or supplementary examinations or the results of any academic progress interview.
Note:
- It is assumed you will be going on exchange in 2009 and you will be expected to re-enrol, unless you indicate otherwise. If you are not returning, you must:
- apply to your faculty to take Leave of Absence;
- or submit a notice of discontinuation of enrolment to your faculty, by Friday 21 November, 2008.
- Please note that the fee invoice can be sent to, and paid from anywhere in the world. Alternatively, a statement of liability can be downloaded from the Student Portal and used to pay fees. A late fee will apply to all mandatory fees that aren’t received in full by the due date.
Failure to complete these steps may result in the cancellation of your enrolment.
If your enrolment is cancelled and you subsequently wish to resume study in 2009, you must apply in writing to your faculty, who will consider your application on the basis of academic merit and depending on their capacity to take additional students. If such an application is approved, you will be required to pay a Late Re-enrolment fee of $250 and will be re-admitted to the course at the new 2009 student contribution or tuition fee rate. Re-admission will take place in January.
