Exchange students do not pay tuition fees are payable to the University of Melbourne. The tuition cost of participating in the exchange program is covered by the agreement between your home institution and the University of Melbourne.

Study Abroad

Tuition fees are charged for each semester you are enrolled.

You pay a set fee per semester, no matter how many subjects you are enrolled in. These fees are shown in the table below. For Graduate Study Abroad, you’ll be enrolled in either graduate band 1, 2 or 3 depending on the discipline areas for the majority of your subjects.

Study Abroad Research

Students who have the agreement of an academic at the University of Melbourne for them to come and complete some research towards their home degree as a study abroad student may be subject to fees. The fees charged will depend on the duration of your Study Abroad Research enrolment and the discipline area for the majority of your research. Speak to your potential supervisor about these fees.

If you are commencing studies with us in 2017

Make sure you read our Terms and Conditions for International Students (326 KB pdf) before completing your administrative enrolment. Once you enrol, you will be bound by this fee policy and are agreeing to pay tuition fees for every semester in which you are enrolled. For students commencing in other years, detailed fee information, including the fee policy covering your enrolment, will be provided when you are offered a place at the University.

*All courses available to international students must be registered on the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS) and have a CRICOS code.

 

Living costs

Study Abroad and Exchange students are required to cover their own living expenses. See Cost of living (including accommodation) and advice about planning and budgeting.

 

Other fees and costs

Health costs (Overseas Student Health Cover - OSHC)

International students are required to take out compulsory health insurance as part of their visa obligations. Find out more.

Both Study Abroad and Exchange students are required to have adequate health cover.

Costs associated with my study

Depending on your subjects there may be textbooks and other equipment that is required as part of your study. You may also need to buy special items such as art materials or a lab coat.

Melbourne Welcome for Study Abroad and Exchange

The Melbourne Welcome is an optional introductory program for incoming Study Abroad and Exchange students. A fee is charged for participation in this program. Costs for this program may be covered by your home institution or Study Abroad provider.

  • For students commencing in 2013 or later, detailed fee information, including the fee policy covering your enrolment, payments and refunds, will be provided when you are offered a place at the University.
  • About our tuition fees: Your Study Abroad tuition fees cover the cost of tuition. They do not cover books and equipment or certain other costs and services, such as Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) or optional memberships of the Graduate Association or Melbourne University Sport. You do have access to a range of free support services and facilities.
