Inbound students Study Abroad and Exchange at the University of Melbourne

Airport Pickup & Temporary Accommodation

New interstate or international students (including Study Abroad and Exchange) that have accepted an unconditional academic offer to the University of Melbourne can access our arrival services, including airport reception and assistance with arranging temporary accommodation.

This airport pickup service is only available to interstate or international students commencing their first semester at the University of Melbourne. Only one free airport pickup is available to you.

Airport pickup

Airport pickup is available to new international and interstate students, including Study Abroad and Exchange students, arriving at Melbourne Airport (Tullamarine). Airport pickup is only available to students who have an unconditional offer to study at the University of Melbourne. This service is not available to students who have a conditional offer to study at the University of Melbourne.

Airport pickup is not available from Avalon Airport because of the distance.

This is a free service from the airport to the CBD (Central Business District), Parkville and surrounding areas. Fees apply if:

  • you are travelling to further areas than those listed above
  • there are additional passengers (your family members or anyone who is not a University of Melbourne student)
  • you requested airport pickup, but do not use it on arrival

You will be informed of any additional costs by email once we receive your application

If you are coming with two people or more, it may be cheaper to take a taxi from the airport (about A$55). TOGOTO Pty Ltd is the shuttle-bus service used for airport reception.

** You must apply at least three (3) business days before your flight.

Temporary Accommodation

If you prefer to wait until you arrive in Melbourne to secure your long-term housing, we recommend you arrange temporary accommodation before departing your home country.

For most students, temporary accommodation is needed for a few nights before your long-term housing becomes available.

Keep in mind that if you have not pre-arranged long term housing, you may need temporary accommodation for a longer period.

The Student Housing Services Temporary Accommodation guide provides an extensive list of hotels and motels located near the University, ranging from backpacker to five-star accommodation. For information on long term housing please visit the University Housing webpage
