New Partners for 2008

The University of Nottingham Ningbo, China
The Univeristy of Nottingham in the UK has a campus at Ningbo, south of Hangzhou Bay from Shanghai in China. Students from the University of Melbourne can now study there on exchange for a semester or a year. All classes are in English. The formal exchange begins in semester 2, 2009. 2008 Grants for Travel in 2009
The Walter Mangold Trust Fund will, in 2008, undertake a round of grants for Australian students to study abroad.  This grant round will open on 1 September 2008 and close on 17 October 2008. It is anticipated successful applicants will travel overseas for study in 2009. For the 2008 round, the Fund will give priority to those students who will be studying Indonesian, Chinese, Japanese or Spanish languages. The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel
The Hebrew Univeristy of Jerusalem and the University of Melbourne have agreed to begin exchanging students. The first students will be able to exchange in semester 2, 2009. Students can study in Hebrew and English. See the entry under Israel in the partner list for the relevant links to the Hebrew University website.

International Travelling Studios

The Melbourne School of Design is offering two fantastic, interdisciplinary travelling studios in Semester 2 – one to Nanjing in China and one to Genoa in Italy. Each travelling studio has a quota of places.
Applicants will be assessed and selected by a committee on the basis of academic merit and an ‘expression of interest’ statement. Pre-trip briefings or seminars will precede the travel component of each studio. The studios will incur travel costs, in addition to tuition fees. Faculty subsidies will, however, be available.

DAAD Scholarships available for a Deutschlandkundlicher Winterkurs in Germany

In cooperation with the Universities of Essen, Freiburg, Leipzig, and the institute Fubis in Berlin, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) intends to offer scholarships for a six (four)-week Deutschlandkundlicher Winterkurs from January to February 2009. This is an exciting opportunity for students and junior faculty members with a sound knowledge of German wanting to improve their language skills and understanding of contemporary affairs.

The course is open to all Australian and New Zealand undergraduates, graduates and junior faculty members, except graduates involved in German and German faculty courses. All lectures of this course will be held in German.

Deadline for USA Fellowships Extended

The American Australian Association promotes educational exchange and seeks to strengthen scientific, technology and business ties between the United States and Australia. To promote this cause, the Association offers individual Fellowships of up to US$25,000 plus airfare allowance in its Australia to USA Program. The fellowships are for (graduate and post doctoral) research/study in the United States in the fields of: Business; Medicine; Science; Technology; Engineering. School of Higher Studies (SNS) Pisa, Italy
The School of Higher Studies (Scuola Normale Superiore) in Pisa and the Faculty of Arts at the University of Melbourne have agreed to begin exchanging students at PhD level. The first students will be able to exchange from semester 2, 2008. Students will be doing mainly research and should contact Melbourne Global Mobility for further information. University of Chile
The University of Chile and the University of Melbourne have agreed to begin exchanging students. The first students will be able to exchange in semester 2, 2008. Students can only study in Spanish. Network of Degrees in Ethics, Human Rights and Institutions

This exciting exchange program is for students with an interest in ethics and human rights. Formed by a group of universities in Australia and Europe, with funding for ten students of $7,600 from the European Union and the Australian Government, it is designed to enable students to have greater access to a range of topics on ethics, human rights and the institutions for implementing them.

The European partner institutions at which the exchanges can occur are:

The exchanges are open to students who have completed, or are currently studying, philosophy or political theory subjects. Preference will be given to students who are specialising in philosophy or political theory and who will have completed two years of study at the time of the exchange.
