Melbourne Global Mobility For Outgoing Students

Deferring Your Exchange

"Something has come up and I was wondering if I can put my exchange off?"

You are able to defer your exchange for one semester only usually. For example, if you have been approved to go on exchange in semester 1, 2010 you can defer your exchange until semester 2, 2010.

To defer your exchange by a semester, follow these steps:

  1. check with Melbourne Global Mobility that there are no impediments to you doing this;
  2. if not, confirm in writing with Melbourne Global Mobility, via email is sufficient, that you wish to defer your exchange until the following semester; and
  3. copy your Faculty advisor(s) into the email so that they also know that you are deferring your exchange.

"What happens next?"

At the end of the semester in which you deferred your exchange, Melbourne Global Mobility will send you a form called a Confirmation of Exchange Place. The form tells you what preferences you listed previously and asks you to confirm whether or not you still wish to be considered for an exchange in the following semester.

  1. If you do NOT wish to continue to participate in the exchange program simply tick the relevant box, sign and date the form and return it to Melbourne Global Mobility by the due date.
  2. If you do wish to continue to participate in the exchange program in the following semester:
    • tick the relevant box;
    • check that the details recorded on the form are correct and make any desired changes; and
    • sign and date the form, then return it to your Faculty advisor(s) by the due date.

The Faculty advisor will check your progress in the most recent semester and, if you have maintained or improved your average, will approve you continuing to participate in the exchange program.

Once Melbourne Global Mobility receives the signed Confirmation of Exchange Place form, prepartion for the exchange will proceed in the usual way along with all the applications received for the new round.
