Notes

  1. In the Geomatics program only the specialisation in Measurement Science, semesters 7-10 (see diagram on page 4 of the Chartered Surveying (1.5MB pdf) brochure) is taught in English. The content of the specialisation is available the Measurement Science website. The specialisation on Land Management will be available in English by 2009. Students can also do a research project on an agreed topic with an English-speaking supervisor. The student will also be attached to a study group of Danish students and thereby be included in the general study environment.
  2. Students should have completed at least three semesters of tertiary study before an exchange to the University of Copenhagen.
  3. Students applying to the Sibelius Academy must apply for an exchange beginning in semester 2 in any year, applications for exchange will not be accepted to start in semester 1.
  4. While the National School of Higher Studies of Architecture and Landscape Architecture, Bordeaux prefers students to come for their academic year (October to June) they can also accept students from October to February and from February to June.
  5. Students may take their courses in the Masters of Science in Management I (MScI), which is for non-French-speakers, or in MScII (according to what is on offer each year) if proficient in French.
  6. Students should have completed at least two years of tertiary study at the time of commencing an exchange to the Institute of Political Studies, Paris. Note that applications are preferred for a year-long exchange and can be accepted to begin in either first or second semester, but can be accepted for a semester if necessary.
  7. Not all faculties will credit the Study in English in Lyon, France (SELF) Program. Please consult your Faculty advisor for advice.
  8. Applications for an exchange to Paris II - Panthéon-Assas University must be submitted by the December deadline, for a year-long exchange beginning in the Paris II first semester. This exchange agreement provides for entry into a maîtrise course at Paris II and therefore students should have completed at least three years of study in Law before the exchange.
  9. Students wanting to study at Paris VII must have a score of 8.5 out of 20 in the DALF - Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française or an equivalent diploma - see Alliance Francaise de Melbourne for further information about French language testing in Melbourne.
  10. Students intending to study in German are required to have at least 200 hours of German language instruction or equivalent. Students studying in English will need to have at least 50 hours of German language instruction at university level. Please contact Melbourne Global Mobility if you require clarification. Some institutions have specific requirements, for example see points 12 and 13 below.
  11. A past exchange student at the Technical University of Berlin, Andrew Guy, is a member of an Australian Rules football team in Berlin called the Berlin Crocodiles. They are keen to recruit any students coming from Melbourne who would like to play but Andrew is also happy to talk with any students considering an exchange to Berlin. You can contact him at andrewbg@gmx.de.
  12. The Free University in general requires that students have Test DaF level 3. This test can be done at the Goethe Institut in Melbourne.
  13. Humboldt University requires a good command of German language. View their Online Application page and scroll down for specific German language requirements. Pay particular attention to the Merkblatt Sprachniveau on this site.
  14. Students in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Biological and Computer Engineering, as well as Computer Science, with less German language ability may be able to do a semester of project work in English with English-speaking professors. The credit from the exchange must still equal at least 37.5 points.
  15. In addition to the general language requirements for Germany (see note 10 above), all students will be required to do the free intensive language course when they arrive at Stuttgart prior to their exchange and at least one German language subject during the semester unless they can provide evidence that they have a sufficient level of German language ability.
  16. The Winter University provides classes in German Language and Culture and one approved elective at Stuttgart in January and February beginning in 2005. Upon successful completion of these subjects, students will receive up to 25 points of credit at Melbourne.
