Notes

United Kingdom

  1. Applications for Heriot-Watt University must be submitted by the December deadline, for exchanges beginning in the Heriot-Watt first semester.
  2. Applications for Imperial College, University of London, must be submitted by the December deadline, for a year-long exchange beginning in the Imperial College first semester.
  3. Applications for Chemical Engineering at University College, University of London, must be submitted by the December deadline, for a year-long exchange beginning in the University College first semester.
  4. Many University of Birmingham departments/faculties (particularly Engineering, Law and Commerce) only accept year-long exchange students beginning in the Birmingham first semester. Please consult the "Incoming Exchange Programme" section of the University of Birmingham web site for more information.
  5. Students studying wanting to go on exchange to the University of East Anglia must be able to receive credit for at least 50% of their studies on exchange in Creative Writing.
  6. Applications for the University of Edinburgh must be submitted by the December deadline, for a year-long exchange beginning in the Edinburgh first semester. Students can take no more than two thirds of their total subject load in one particular area. Masters by coursework will not be accepted for exchange at the University of Edinburgh.
  7. Architecture students will not be accepted if they require studio space as part of their exchange studies at the University of Edinburgh.
  8. Commerce students wishing to study on exchange in Manchester must choose the Manchester Business School, a constituent faculty of the University of Manchester, in the first instance.
  9. In addition to accepting only a limited number of exchange students in Architecture, students wishing to study within Manchester School of Architecture (MSA) must have completed a minimum of three years undergraduate study on joining the program at Manchester. See attached MSA Exchange Student Guidelines (20kb pdf).
  10. Music students interested in studying music performance at the University of Nottingham should note that there will be tuition charges of £125 per performance module. Students may only study Psychology at Nottingham for the academic year (September to May).

USA

  1. While eligible to take subjects in other colleges of Cornell University, subject to approval and availability, exchange students must take the MAJORITY of their subjects in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
  2. Postgraduate students may be accepted, but will be admitted to the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Cornell University as undergraduates. Please see Melbourne Global Mobility staff for further information.
  3. Students interested in studying Commerce, other than economics, at Georgetown will only be able to enrol in two subjects per semester.
  4. Exchange students MUST take at least half of their credit load at Haverford College. The other half, subject to approval and availability, may be taken at Bryn Mawr College and Swarthmore College (free transportation is provided) and/or the University of Pennsylvania (transportation by regional light rail at students' expense).
  5. Students studying Finance at NYU will only be able to enrol in two subjects per semester.
  6. Graduate students interested in study on exchange at the University of California should contact Melbourne Global Mobility well in advance of the Melbourne application due date to discuss their possible exchange as special requirements exist for graduate exchange students to California.
  7. 'Lower Division' subjects (code prefixes range from 0-99) are equivalent to first year subjects at Melbourne, 'Upper Division' subjects (code prefixes range from 100-199) are equivalent to second and third year subjects and 'Graduate' subjects (code prefixes range from 200+)are fourth year and higher.
  8. Students wanting to go on exchange to the University of Michigan who are non-native speakers of English must have a current TOEFL result with a score of at least 230 on the computer-based test.
  9. Postgraduate students may be accepted, but will be admitted to the College of Literature, Science and the Arts (LSA) at the University of Michigan as undergraduates. Please see Melbourne Global Mobility staff for further information.
  10. Applications for Engineering at Michigan must be submitted by the December deadline, for exchanges beginning in the Michigan first semester.
  11. Graduate subjects at the University of Pennsylvania usually have codes beginning with 500+. These subjects are not usually available to undergraduate students.
  12. Exchange students seeking Law credit at the University of Texas MUST take a full course load (14 credits per semester) in the School of Law. An additional subject from another faculty may be acceptable.
  13. Architecture students are only accepted at third year in the B. Architectural Studies for the fall semester (semester 2 in Melbourne).
  14. Additional course fees may be payable for Art, Architecture and Science courses where studios or labs are involved. Most course fees are under US$50. All course fees are stated on the course far right hand side of the subject timetables.
  15. Graduate applicants: please be aware that Art, professional programs, and Health Sciences (clinical work) are not open to graduate exchange students. Also, the Department of Political Science will only consider year-long applicants to their program and the Department of Economics will only consider applicants for autumn quarter admission. Graduate subjects have codes 500+, undergraduate subjects have codes 100-499.
