What next ...?
Acceptance usually takes from 4 to 12 weeks from when your host institution application is sent overseas. Acceptance notification is usually sent via Melbourne Global Mobility and we will notify you immediately via email when it arrives.
If you are sent acceptance documents directly by your host institution, bring these documents in to Melbourne Global Mobility so that we have a copy for our files and ask us for the University of Melbourne acceptance letter.
Once accepted, and before you leave the country, please make sure you:
- present the acceptance documents to your Faculty advisors and ensure your enrolment is updated
- confirm that your study plan has been approved and Melbourne Global Mobility has a copy
- register for subjects at your host institution
- apply for accommodation
- purchase a plane ticket
- obtain appropriate health and travel insurance
- if required, photocopy and use the acceptance documents to apply for a student visa
- if required, photocopy and use the University of Melbourne acceptance letter to confirm your study on exchange with Centrelink
- if you are an international student, the University of Melbourne will inform the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) about the start and end dates of your exchange and therefore that you will be studying out of Australia
- attend a Melbourne Global Mobility pre-departure session.
Important! Don't forget to re-enrol and course plan. For instructions see the re-enrolment for outgoing students webpage.
