Semester-long Study Abroad

If you are unable to participate in the University of Melbourne student exchange program, undertaking a fee paying study abroad semester may be an option for you to consider. Students are encourages to schedule a meeting with the Faculty advisor in your Student Centre to discuss possible options, in light of your enrolment to discuss subject and credit load issues in addition to deciding what you are seeking from the experience. 

You will be asked to arrange your own fee paying study program by exploring the various options and applying directly to the host institution. It is a requirement that before you depart that you have your chosen overseas subjects approved by your faculty(s). You must apply to take a leave of absence from your degree at the University of Melbourne through your Student Centre and will, therefore, not be paying any tuition fees here. You will, however, probably have to pay tuition fees at your host institution.

Upon returning from your fee paying study abroad semester, academic transcripts will most likely be sent directly to you. Once you have received your academic transcript, you should check your transcript to ensure all of your subjects are listed, and submit this to your Faculty advisor in your Student Centre in order to receive the appropriate pre-approved credit.

 

Fee paying Study Abroad

There are a variety of fee paying study abroad opportunities available that vary in duration and type of program. Fee paying study abroad for a semester allows you to study at an overseas institution that generally does not have an exchange agreement with the University of Melbourne. It is possible to undertake fee paying study abroad at a partner institution, but please contact Melbourne Global Mobility to discuss option further. Melbourne Global Mobility has a resource library and helpful links and addresses available to assist in providing useful information about fee paying study abroad programs across a variety of destinations around the world.

 

Scholarships

As a fee paying study abroad student, you are eligible to apply for numerous scholarships offered through the University of Melbourne. You should consider applying for a Melbourne Global Mobility Scholarship, a Melbourne Global Mobility Scholarship in Language Study or one of the many scholarships available from other bodies. You can apply for most scholarships without being formally accepted by the study abroad institution.
