Short-term Programs
A number of short term programs exist that you may wish to consider in addition to or an alternative of a semester or year abroad. Some short term programs offered at the University of Melbourne do not carry credit which can be applied to your substantive degree, but are an excellent opportunity to undertake quite a focused and unique education abroad experience.
Research
A number of short term research opportunities exist in both undergraduate and graduate courses, with some of these opportunities specifically focused on capstone research project requirements. If you have an interest in undertaking research abroad you should contact your Student Centre to see what opportunities may exist for you.
Placements
Some programs do have hurdle requirements in place in order to graduate (such as Medicine, Veterinary Science and Teaching), and it may be possible for you to undertake part of your placement abroad. For additional information on undertaking an overseas placement, you should speak with your Student Centre.
U21 Summer School and Undergraduate Research Conference
Through the University's participation in the Universitas21 (U21) network, a Summer School and Undergraduate Research Conference are held each year. The University of Melbourne sends a small group of student and staff representatives to both programs which are coordinated each year by different U21 member institutions. All costs associated with both programs will be covered for students that are selected to represent the University of Melbourne. Themes for both programs change from year to year, and participation in these opportunities is selective, with faculties asked to nominate student and staff representatives. Please refer to the U21 webpages for more information on the U21 Summer School and the U21 Undergraduate Research conference.
