Global Issues Program: Program Structure
The Universitas 21 Global Issues Program (GIP) is designed to address the particular demands of undergraduate students who have an interest in global studies. Students complete fifty percent of the GIP through at least one other partner university, whether online or by studying overseas on exchange. Going on physical exchange is not compulsory; however it is an option and student must apply for semester-based physical exchange by the exchange deadlines.
The GIP is available to Melbourne students as a 4-subject Certificate or and 8-subject Diploma. Typically students take their GIP subjects during second and third year, alongside their degree subjects. This requires careful planning and, conditional on Faculty approval, sometimes overloading. Sometimes it will extend your study duration at the University.
Subject offerings differ slightly each year, and include both campus-based subjects and wholly online subjects. Many are repeated throughout the calendar year, and some are offered in intensive mode. It is recommended that students take one of the core subject options first. Student in new generation degrees may be given retrospective credit for cross-listed subjects towards the Program, to a maximum of 50%.
