Welcome to the University of Queensland
The University of Queensland (UQ) has joined the Global Issues Program and now offers three new subjects to GIP students. The subjects are all run from UQ's School of Political Science and International Studies. 'Conceptions of World Politics', taught by Professor Roland Bleiker, will run in Semester 1 (March – June).
The purpose of this course is to introduce the main conceptual approaches to the study of international relations. It interweaves discussion of competing theories – such as realism, liberalism, constructivism and feminism – with practical illustrations. The latter range from questions of power, legitimacy and force to more specific debates surrounding the issue of global citizenship. By drawing on concrete problems, such as terrorism, war or poverty, the course illustrates how ideas shape practices of global politics.
