Melbourne Global Mobility For Outgoing Students

Re-enrolment and Course Planning While Overseas

This page is designed for students currently on exchange. If you are about to go on exchange, please go to the re-enrolment for outgoing students webpage.

Re-enrolment for 2010

Re-enrolment runs from Monday, 26 October to Friday, 20 November in 2009 via the Student Portal. If you do not re-enrol between these dates you will incur a $250 Late Re-enrolment Fee. If you have not re-enrolled for 2009 by Friday 4 December 2009 your enrolment will be cancelled. If you are an international student whose enrolment is cancelled, your Australian visa will also be cancelled.

For help with your subject selection, contact your Student Centre/Graduate School.

You must make sure that your contact details are up to date and you check your email on a regular basis, during this period.
Who should re-enrol?

You must re-enrol if you are currently away on exchange and will be:

  • Returning to Melbourne for study in 2010
    Complete your re-enrolment as usual for the 2010 academic year, that is for any period in which you will be studying (summer, semester 1 or 2);

  • Extending your exchange to include semester 1, 2010
    If you are hoping to extend your exchange but it is yet to be approved:
    • re-enrol for the 2010 academic year as if you were returning to Melbourne; and
    • once approved notify your Faculty advisor by email that your semester 1 enrolment needs to reflect the fact that you will still be on exchange.

  • Still on exchange in semester 1, 2010, but will return to Melbourne for study in semester 2, 2010
    If you have been approved to extend your exchange or were always going to be still on exchange in semester 1 and returning to Melbourne in semester 2:
    • re-enrol for semester 2; and
    • notify your Faculty advisor by email that your semester 1enrolment needs to reflect the fact that you will still be on exchange.

  • Travelling or otherwise engaged in semester 1, 2010, but will return to Melbourne for study in semester 2
    If your exchange is completed at the end of the year, but you do not plan to return to study at the University of Melbourne until semester 2, 2010:
    • apply for leave of absence through the Student Portal for semester 1 before 20 November; and
    • re-enrol for semester 2 before 20 November.
    For more information see the University's FAQ on "Leave of Absence".

You do not need to re-enrol for 2010 if semester 2, 2009 was the last semester in your degree and you have successfully completed all your studies on exchange.

Re-enrolment procedure

Re-enrolment is done through the Student Portal. There are three (3) steps:

  1. indicating your interest in student organisations;
  2. accepting the terms and conditions of re-enrolment; and
  3. selecting your subjects (this requirement does not apply to all courses).

Read the information on re-enrolment, including steps and common questions, on the University's FAQ's. If you are having difficulties re-enrolling, email your Faculty advisor.

After completing the enrolment steps, your enrolment for 2010 will be authorised and confirmed via an automatic process in mid-December. You will be confirmed in mid-December if you:

  • have a valid course plan; and
  • have no debts (such as library fines).

If this does not happen, you need to contact your Student Centre/Graduate School.

After 16 December, you should download an invoice from the Student Portal. Your invoice can be paid from anywhere in the world. A late fee will apply to all mandatory fees that aren't received in full by the due date.
