Returning Students
Welcome Back!
Returned exchange students are Melbourne Global Mobility's most valuable asset! By hearing of your experiences and suggestions, we can improve our services for future exchange students. As a returned exchange student, Melbourne Global Mobility invites you to share your overseas experience in various ways.
Debriefing Session
You will be invited to attend a debriefing session when you return to the University of Melbourne. It is an opportunity to tell staff of your experiences while abroad. It is also a chance to talk and compare experiences with other returning students. The sessions are designed to offer you strategies to help you settle back to life in Melbourne. Please attend this session.
The debriefing sessions are run in conjunction with the University of Melbourne Student Counselling Service and are informal occasions so that you arrive when you can and leave when you must. In addition to refreshments, some go to the pub afterwards.
Helping New Exchange Students
Melbourne Global Mobility needs volunteers willing to talk about their overseas experiences at information sessions for prospective exchange students. Please let Melbourne Global Mobility staff know if you are prepared to do this. Staff will contact you closer to the time to book you into a session or two.
You may also find that, if you have given us permission to give out your email address, students planning their exchange will want to contact you about where you went on exchange. They need as much help as you can provide. You may prefer to write a detailed description of all the basic information and give it to us to pass to students in the first instance. If they have further questions we can then suggest that they contact you directly.
Other things for returning students...
Transcripts
We request from the partner instititon that a transcipt, which lists the results for the subjects that you completed while overseas, be sent to Melbourne Global Mobility after you have completed your exchange. You will be notified when this has arrived and asked to come to collect it. A copy will be sent to your faculty(s) where the appropriate credit points are entered on your records. Remember to retain the transcript for future reference, further study and scholarship applications or job interviews.
If you receive the transcript directly from the host institution, please bring it into Melbourne Global Mobility office and we will make the necessary copies and send it to the Faculty to arrange for your credit to be transferred to your degree here.
If you are doing your final semester on exchange and you are planning to graduate after you have returned, there may be delays with your transcript from the partner institution. This can mean that your graduation will be later in the year than you had anticipated. Information about how to organise your graduation can be found under Graduations on the Student Information System website.
Exchange Students' Society
April 2003 saw the formation of M.U.S.EX - Melbourne University Student Exchange society - the University of Melbourne's new exchange students' society. Born from first-hand experience, this group of students aims to encourage the integration of visiting exchange and study abroad students with Melbourne Global Mobility students who have returned from exchange, are about to go on exchange and any other interested local students. There will be parties, dinners, BBQs, river cruises, weekend getaways and much much more!
